Imaginary Colors: Oahu

This collection explores the simplicity and purity of Oahu, Hawaii's natural beauty through black and white photography. By stripping away color, these images invite viewers to engage their imagination, filling in the hues often taken for granted. The project features an array of subjects, from delicate flowers to lush foliage and expansive landscapes, captured in a way that highlights their forms and textures.

Although the focus on flowers wasn't premeditated, it became a natural attraction upon arrival. Using a Leica Q3 camera with its wide-angle lens and leaf shutter, along with direct flash, Henry Coors accentuates the contrasts and details, creating striking compositions that emphasize the intricate beauty of the subjects.

This series is not just a documentation of a place but a personal journey, taken during Coors' first and only visit to Oahu on a family trip. The decision to present these typically vibrant and colorful subjects in black and white is a deliberate choice, empowering the photographer to see beyond color and focus on the essence of the scene. The resulting images inspire a sense of curiosity, encouraging viewers to explore the unseen and imagine the colors, thus creating a deeply personal and introspective experience.
